• Follicular phase: Ideal for creative problem-solving, reaching out to new clients, and leading team calls as estrogen increases social energy
• Ovulatory phase: Peak time for pitching, closing deals, conducting interviews, and especially negotiating compensation
• Luteal phase: Perfect for detail work like revising proposals and wrapping up projects as progesterone rises
• Cycle syncing works best with already-balanced hormones but can help anyone become more attuned to their natural energy patterns
• Consider marking expected ovulation and period dates on your calendar to better plan important work activities

Speaker 1:

Hey friend, thanks for listening to. I'm Hormonal. This is episode number 105, and I'm so excited that you've joined me today. This is an episode that I put together just for you, especially for you, if you are a woman in sales and you want to understand how you can work in alignment with your hormones, so that everything comes a little bit more naturally to you. Now, if you are not a woman in sales, don't worry, this is still applicable, transferable, because we are all meeting with people, we are all having some sort of administrative work to do, we are all trying to figure out what's the best time to do some long-term planning. So, hey, stick with me, even if you're not a woman in sales. You can check out the link in the show notes. I would love it if you grabbed the guide that goes along with what I'm talking about today. This guide is called Unlock Peak Performance a guide to hormone health for women in sales, and it is going to be a really good free resource for you to have, along with the content that we are going to be chatting through today.

Speaker 1:

So today, of course, is a mini episode. We're going to just jump right into it and I really am just going to be going through the main takeaways from Tuesday's episode earlier this week because, hey, sometimes we need to consume this information in just a bite-sized nugget. So here we go, and I guess, before I say that, I just want to consume this information in just a bite-sized nugget, so here we go, and I guess, before I say that, I just want to say welcome again and thank you so much for listening. I know you guys have so many options, but it has been really fun to see the podcast, or to see you guys listening to the podcast, more especially over the last two, three months, I think. So I just want to say I see you and thank you so much. Okay, now let's jump in.

Speaker 1:

So we're going to walk through the four phases of the menstrual cycle menstrual phase, follicular phase, ovulatory phase and then luteal phase and identify what are the activities that are best for each. So, starting off with the menstrual phase, this is the time when you are on your period. This kicks off your cycle with cycle day one and during this time, when estrogen levels and progesterone levels are at their lowest throughout the entire cycle, this is going to set you up to probably feel most inclined to reflect, to review on the previous month or your previous cycle. And it also is a time when you are naturally going to be more inclined to be setting goals right, setting goals for the upcoming cycle, for the upcoming quarter, whatever it is that feels aligned for you. But doing this kind of reflecting, reviewing where to go from here, that's what's going to be most natural. Reviewing where to go from here, that's what's going to be most natural. Also, right, if you're working in sales and you travel, then maybe this is a good time to say, okay, let me spend this time organizing my travel for next month or for the rest of the cycle. How can I plan to travel to see customers, if able, during the middle of my cycle We'll get there in just a second. But planning internal review, updating of documentation, maybe that's what's going to feel best for you around that time.

Speaker 1:

Next, the follicular phase. This is going to be the best time for you to do some kind of creative problem solving, to start brainstorming, to start reaching out to new clients. Maybe you are well continuing to travel, just getting out there, right. As estrogen levels go up during the follicular phase, you're going to feel like more outgoing, more like being with people. Right, estrogen is the hormone that helps us feel like, hey, I want to get out there, I want to be seen, I want to talk. So that's what's going on in this phase. This would also be a great phase if you you know, if you maybe lead kickoff calls or proposal calls with your internal team and you can schedule them during this phase, then you're going to be in great shape. Maybe a good opportunity to mentor some of your teammates or just again start connecting with clients. That's when it's going to feel probably the most easy and natural going.

Speaker 1:

Now I want to remind you that cycle syncing this is going to really be the most juice for the squeeze. If you have a cycle that is already pretty well aligned, pretty well balanced, cycle syncing is not a tool that is going to help you necessarily balance your hormones. If there is something out of whack or if you are not ovulating, it isn't going to be the tool that is helping you to start ovulating. Uh, grammar, it's not going to help you start ovulating again necessarily. So just remember that it maybe. If you're listening and your cycle is unpredictable right now or it is MIA, then just keep this in the back of your mind for in the future, or use it as a good template to say, okay, well, let me just try some different things and let me really reflect on does this feel like it's coming naturally to me? Do I feel resistant towards this task or this activity? And that's actually something that any of you can do, regardless of your cycle status, because it really is all about what's coming natural to me, what feels in alignment with my energy levels, with my skills, and you see where I'm going with that.

Speaker 1:

Okay, let's move on next to the ovulatory phase. This is going to be those probably four days in the middle of your cycle, around the time when you ovulate, and this is best for all of that. Good, high energy, in-person pitching, closing deals, like high pressure conversations, or maybe you have to have tough conversations if you manage other sales folks and you need to do some tough love. Mentoring Could be a good time to do interviews, whether you're interviewing for a job yourself or interviewing others. And then, last but absolutely not least, when it comes time for you to talk to your manager, talk to whoever it is about your raise and about your compensation. That would be absolutely dope if you did that around your ovulatory phase, because, again, that's naturally going to be the time when you did that around your ovulatory phase because, again, that's naturally going to be the time when you are feeling like you are the stronger or strongest communicator, like you have the confidence to say what you want to say. So negotiate your raise and negotiate it during your ovulatory phase.

Speaker 1:

Fourth and final, we're going to talk about the luteal phase. This is the phase when you are going to naturally feel inclined to kind of wrap things up right. Progesterone is the main hormone during this phase. Progesterone is going to end up tapering off at the end of your cycle. That's what causes your period to start. Once your hormone levels go back down I say that to say, towards the end of this phase your energy levels are going to be going down too, so you may not feel like you really want to be in person or you really want to be traveling Again.

Speaker 1:

If you don't have the ability to control exactly when you travel, exactly when you meet with customers, then no pressure, no stress. You don't have to use this as something to hold you back or something to be, I don't know, like. I wish I could. I wish I could work in alignment with this. I would definitely encourage you to use it instead as a tool to help you get to know yourself, get to understand what are your own patterns and when do you get the most joy out of different tasks that you have coming up for you. So anyway, luteal phase you are wrapping things up. You are also maybe going to feel most inclined to be doing revising and editing of proposals or write-ups that you have, because during the luteal phase, that's when you might have a little bit greater attention to detail.

Speaker 1:

So I hope that all of this gave you some good food for thought. So I hope that all of this gave you some good food for thought. Hopefully this will help you to A navigate your next month and months of work. If you are in sales or whatever area of whatever career field that you're in, there should be something here that you can really grasp from and transfer over. I would definitely encourage you to put a reminder on your calendar for your expected date of ovulation and your expected first date of your period so that, as you are planning for your travel, as you're planning for your future self, you have those little reminders there, because I mean, I talk about periods all the time. This is my jam and, off the top of my head, I can't even necessarily tell you when is the next day my periods would start. So don't leave it up to chance. Don't leave it up to like okay, well, hopefully this will work for me, but this should be a tool for you to advocate for your future self be able to do your work in the way that feels the most aligned, feels the most productive, and I'm really excited for you to see how this impacts the way that you feel about your work and the results that you create. So that's all I've got for today.
